Winter in Isabella County

What comes to mind when we hear, “Winter in Mt. Pleasant?” Culture, food, recreation, family fun and entertainment! From hands-on museums and artist exhibitions, to sledding hills and indoor recreation centers, the Mt. Pleasant area offers a variety of places for winter fun this season.

Culture

Winter offers fun both indoors and out; one of our favorite inside activities is visiting local museums and galleries. Experience the Midwest’s premier American Indian museum, the Ziibiwing Cultural Center, offering education on the Saginaw Chippewa Indian Tribe and other Great Lakes Anishinabek tribes. For exhibitions from local, regional and student artists, visit Art Reach of Mid-Michigan and the University Art Gallery. Click here for other museums and galleries.

Winter Recreation

For outdoor adventure ideas, check out our Outdoor Adventures page. When it comes to escaping the cold, here are our favorite places to stay active, indoors during the winter months:
Morey Courts Recreation Center: Basketball and volleyball courts, workout classes, a walking track and more
The Jump Station: indoor-trampoline park, offering fun for play dates, day dates and birthdays; the Station also offers adult workout classes
Yoga: flow and glow at our local yoga studios; Yoga on Main (hot yoga) & Redbloom Yoga in Downtown Mt. Pleasant

Chews & Brews

With more than 100 restaurants and two microbreweries, the options for great food are endless. We recommend visiting the area’s microbreweries for seasonal, handcrafted brews and unique chews. Visit Hunter’s Ale House and Summit Smokehouse & Tap Room (Mountain Town Brewing Co.) for killer craft beer options; Mountain Town Station in Downtown Mt. Pleasant features Mountain Town Brewing Co.’s beer on tap.

For the ultimate dining and cocktail experience, Midori Sushi and Martini Lounge offers delicious, signature and seasonal cocktails to compliment its fresh sushi menu. Specialty roll recommendations: Midori & Fire Up!

If you’re looking for warm and cozy dining options, we recommend our list of local diners and coffee shops:
For coffee and crepes, visit Pleasant City Coffee in Downtown Mt. Pleasant.
For the best waffles in town and unique, seasonal menus, visit Ponder Coffee Company in both Downtown Mt. Pleasant and its Central location.
For the ultimate cup of hot cocoa and savory, diner classics, visit Roz’s Diner in Rosebush, Michigan; listed as one of Michigan’s Best’s diners!
