Wow! The Mt. Pleasant CVB has “got game”! Our Gus Macker Basketball Tournament continues to visit the Central Michigan University campus on the last Spring weekend, prior to final exams each year. The CMU version of this traveling 3on3 festival is the only college-academic based host organization in the national tour. Each Winter semester, commercial recreation students learn the basics of the Macker program and are trained in administrating the weekend tournament. Their final exam is centered on hosting the event around Finch Fieldhouse, on the parking lots and streets within the campus. Dr. Tim (T.O.) Otteman and his RPL 333 students create a fun-filled, family weekend of basketball. The end result is to raise money for the Event Center’s practice facility, named for former basketball Coach Dick Parfitt. This is only made possible by local support, like that of the Mt. Pleasant CVB and many other businesses. The goal of Gus Macker is to make the world a better place….and we’re proud to say that the Mt. Pleasant Area Convention & Visitors Bureau definitely does that by bringing our event to Mt. Pleasant and CMU! Fire-up and we’ll see you on the court this coming Spring!

“The City of Mt. Pleasant is quickly becoming one of the premier destination spots for running disc golf events in Michigan. Located within Deerfield Nature Park are two scenic and challenging disc golf courses that draw people from all over the Midwest, and beyond. Pair this venue with an outstanding staff at Isabella County Parks & Recreation, an extremely passionate Mt. Pleasant Disc Golf Club, the Mt. Pleasant CVB who is always friendly and eager to help, and numerous hotels and restaurants nearby; and you have a location where you can end your search for the perfect disc golf tournament venue.”

“As tournament director of the Michigan Amateur Softball Association(MASA) Girls Fast Pitch State Tournament, that annually hosts up to 130 teams in the Mt. Pleasant community, it has been a pleasure and honor to work with a group of such dedicated professionals. The Mt. Pleasant CVB is a key partner in the operation of the tournament and has made scheduling of facilities and lodging seamless and hands off. The small town friendliness and big league experience that visitors receive from the Mt. Pleasant community and Mt. Pleasant CVB has been instrumental in the City of Mt. Pleasant being awarded the State Tournament for the past 7 years. It is without question, that the relationship we have with the Mt. Pleasant CVB has made the MASA State Tournament a success and a destination for teams every year!”
– Steve Hofer, MASA Girls Fast Pitch State Tournament Director
