Members of the community are getting ready to huddle up for a popular event that takes place each spring.

Tickets are still available for Mid Michigan College’s annual fundraising gala A Northern Tradition. The event is planned for Sunday, April 14 at Jay’s Sporting Goods in Clare.

Since its inception 17 years ago, A Northern Tradition has raised more than $1.6 million for the college and its students. Money raised goes toward funding student scholarships, facility improvements, local youth programming, and more.

One such program is Students of Promise. Sponsored by Mid’s Foundation, the program selects up to 25 seventh grade students from area schools and mentors them through their high school graduation.

Last year’s event raised more than $100,000. Over 750 people attended the 2018 fundraiser.

Tickets, which are available for $50, include a $25 gift certificate to Jay’s Sporting Goods, commemorative art print, and the chance to win a $1,000 gift certificate to Jay’s. Local restaurants will be on hand, serving complimentary appetizers and desserts, and entertainment includes live music and various demonstrations.

Jeff ChadwickThis year’s commemorative art print features the work of Upper Peninsula artist Robin Murray. Each ticketholder will receive a numbered and signed copy of the Murray print Michigan Royals, a realistic painting of a 12-point bull elk.

Fitting for the sporting goods store location, the 2019 A Northern Tradition will feature NFL football player Jeff Chadwick as its special guest. Chadwick is a current resident of Clare, graduated from Grand Valley State University, and spent ten seasons in the NFL as a wide receiver. He’ll be sharing football stories and signing autographs.
