Max and Emily’s Summer Concert Series

The Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series started with a vision from owner Tim Brockman and General Manager Chris “Elmo” Walton back in the fall of 2008.

With local musician, Monique Berry asking to perform her first local show in eight years at Max & Emily’s, Brockman and Walton worked with Downtown Development Coordinator, Michelle Sponseller on how to close down Broadway one night in August to put on a free show for the community. With over 750 people in attendance, the show was a great success and their vision became a reality.

In 2010, both Brian Vander Ark and The Saucecats returned, drawing over 2,000 people for the combined nights. Concluding the series, Jeff Daniels made his presence known, bringing over 2,200 in attendance. Jeff Daniels is a singer, songwriter and actor. He also is a Central Michigan University Alumni and truly brought a uniqueness to the Summer Concert Series and continued the exponential growth of this event.

2012 brought in well-known talent from around the country as the Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series grew and gained more attention. The series started off with 90’s rock band, The Verve Pipe in June, followed by the folk-rock melodies of The Ragbirds in July. Howie Day, best known for his 2005 hit “Collide” closed out the series in August.

Each year adds new talent and excitement to the community. In 2020, Max & Emily’s Summer Concert Series will celebrate its 12th anniversary! The concerts are free to all and are family friendly. So grab a couple of lawn chairs, the family, and a hunger for both great Max & Emily’s food and amazing music and we’ll see you downtown summer 2020!
