pecial Olympics Michigan’s largest sport event of the year takes place May 28-30, 2020 at Central Michigan University in Mt. Pleasant. The State Summer Games is the largest sporting even put on by SOMI, with 2,900 SOMI athletes along with an additional 3,400 coaches, volunteers, chaperones, family members and spectators attending each year.
Athletes participate in up to ten types of competition including athletics, bocce, bowling, gymnastics, horsehoes, power lifting, swimming, weightlifting, volleyball, developmental athletics and motor activities training program. In addition to the ten sporting competitions offered to athletes at CMU’s sports facilities, game goers will enjoy opening (Thursday) and closing ceremonies (Saturday) which include a parade of athletes and a victory dance at Kelly/Shorts Stadium.
The games are typically held the last weekend in May or first weekend of June in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan on the campus of Central Michigan University (CMU) at Kelly/Shorts Stadium. Over 2,900 SOMI athletes along with an additional 3,400 coaches, volunteers, chaperones, family members and spectators attending each year.
