Journey to Michigan: The Old Settlers
The Central Michigan University Museum of Cultural and Natural History and its partner the Isabella County Historical Society will host a special program entitled “Journey to Michigan: The Old Settlers,” presented by Diana Green, Carol Norman, Deonna Green, and Tomarrah Green. The presentation will provide a history of the Old Settlers community of Isabella, Mecosta, and Montcalm Counties, one of the most diverse communities in Mid-Michigan. The extended family groups who trace their origins to the Old Settlers are related to or descended from African American families who homesteaded in these three Michigan counties just before, during, or after the Civil War.
The free program will occur on Tuesday, November 12, from 7-8:30 pm at the Museum in the first floor Rowe Hall Lobby. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Rowe Hall is located at the corner of Bellows & East Campus Drive. There is no ticketing on campus after 4:00pm. A parking lot is located south of Rowe Hall and there are meters on the streets.
