August welcomes Art Walk Central, a juried art competition that lasts the duration of the month. Artists spend time competing to catch the attention of visitors and the community to win prizes. Artwork is displayed throughout town for people to visit and vote on. Locations of the artwork include, the University Gallery, the Morey Family Art Gallery, local businesses and more!

Free Children’s Art Classes 

Starting early August, Art Reach hosts a set of free children’s art classes. Each class is located outside at the Art Reach building at 111 E. Broadway and occurs throughout the month. Class topics include: stained glass windows, salt painting, glass magnets and more!

Chalk the Walk 

Being a fan favorite, Art Walk’s Annual Chalk the Walk competition is back. For just $25 artists will have access to attend a workshop, chalk pastels and a sidewalk square downtown. The workshop will take place on August 12 from 4 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. Installation of the sidewalk art will be open from August 13 and end the 15 at 3 p.m. for judging.

Art Walk Central Judges Roundtable 

Join the Art Walk Central Judges as they discuss their top 10 adult and top 5 youth selections for Art Walk Central 2020. Due to the safety of all participants and artists, the roundtable event will be held virtually this year. A live broadcast via Facebook Live will take place at 5 p.m. on August 11. Art Walk Central Ceremony

To wrap up Art Walk Central there will be an award ceremony held on August 22 at 2 p.m. The winners of Art Walk Central 2020 will be announced outside of the Art Reach building with an Ice Cream Social to follow after (while supplies last). 

August Mini Masters 

This event will take place Wednesday, August 12 & 26 5:30-7 p.m. Open to students of all ages, this class is a step-by-step painting class everyone will enjoy. Students will take home a finished acrylic painting on a canvas. All supplies are provided and a sweet treat. Ages 6+ Cost is $25 a class, ($20 for members)  

Planting in the Park 

This event will take place Saturday, August 22 & 29 from 4-6 p.m.  A two-part workshop focused on painting and learning to take care of plants. Spend the first half of the workshop participating in acrylic flower pot painting. Then, in week two spend time picking out succulents and meet at Island Park for a tutorial on the best ways to care for plants. Event cost is $35.
